One Man and a Grill Case Study

The Challenge

An aspiring entrepreneur with passion and talent but was not sure how to put his dreams into action. Additional challenges were limited capital to invest and compliance requirement due to regulations related to the foodservice industry. Jef Scot understood the trepidation aspiring entrepreneurs go through before making the decision to go forward. We spent hours going over all aspects of both the business and client. The client clearly had the passion. He had already proven that people enjoyed his food and would be willing to pay for his food. His food was a smash at company potlucks. So much so that he had been able to sell lunches. He had achieved the first test: Have you proven that people are willing to pay for your product or service.  The client decided to move forward. The task was to create a brand identity and a business plan that would serve as both a roadmap and help secure investor capital.

The Solution

We spoke with the owner to flesh out more details on the vision and the passion. The business owner wrote a bio which we used to create a brand story on the website’s “About Us” page.   We then began to build the brand identity beginning with the logo.  Once the client approved the logo, we began building out the website. Being a new business all of the content and had to be created. Being a food business food business, imagery is really important. Fortunately, the client had some photos that could be used. We integrated the client’s images with high-quality stock photographs. The Facebook business page was created and a sample menu with high-quality photos was posted. The page was then shared with the client’s friends. It was an instant hit and had a lot of interaction. We then boosted the post with paid advertising on Facebook.  A brand was born!

Social Media Development

Social Media marketing is a very tough medium to get right. At its core, social media is word of mouth advertising on steroids. Everyone knows that word of mouth is the best way to get your message out. People trust their friend’s opinions and we all read reviews and make decisions based on those reviews.

For this client, we leveraged his personal friendships and colleagues who were already enthusiasts for his products. We shared the business page initially to this small audience. It was an instant hit. The visuals were very appealing.  We then boosted the post via paid Facebook advertising for less than $50. As a result, 3 corporate catering events were booked and a slew of family orders for Thanksgiving.
